Last night I had the pleasure of attending one of the most influential male vocalist, songwriter, bass player and producer - Peter Cetera.
Don’t remember who he is?
Well if you’re old enough to remember the Karate Kid “theme song”… Not the latest Karate Kid movie to feature Will Smith’s son. I’m referring to the the original blockbuster movie with Mr Miyagi and Ralph Machio.
Peter Cetera and his 6 piece band delivered an impressive and soothing night of music and entertainment at Atlapa Centre in Panama City. Although the concert was scheduled for 8pm, the event started a little late however, the solid performance made up for it.
I can’t say that I’m a die hard Peter Cetera or Chicago fan, but hearing Peter belt out some of those classic and intoxicating melodies stirred up emotions from my youth. A time when movies and music captured the true magic that today’s entertainment outlets lack.
Along by Cetera’s side were Nashville natives vocalist Kim Keyes and dazzling keyboardist Boh Cooper. Cetera still has that recognizable sound however, several higher melodic runs were performed by his backup singers.
Cetera knows how to engage his audience in casual conversation with relevant stories about particular songs. I’m sure I was not the only to learn that “Glory Of Love” was actually intended for Kenny Rogers. Surely, Kenny must be kicking himself for passing up that one.
Cetera’s devoted audience sang along to many of his classic such as “Next Time I Fall In Love”, ” After All”, “Hard Habit To Break” and “You’re The Inspiration”.
Like many leading men, Cetera placed much of the spotlight on his accomplished band.
Women clearly expressed their adoration for the musical genius. I wonder how many of them tried to meet him after his live performance.
One thing I did appreciate was the performers and audio engineers treatment of volume. Would you believe going to concert and hearing music below 120 dB’s? Great music sound great at any volume. You don’t have to turn the amp to 11 to “get a good sound”
Well done Pete!
