Remember this classic from the 90′s?
I quite enjoy listening to 80′s and 90′s music. Although I was more into alternative and jazz music, I had a fondness for grooving dance music of the day. I remember having to wait until Friday nights to get the “latest” in dance coming out of the U.K. and other European countries. Bass Bumpers were a great group with a unique sound. Unfortunately, I think many songs or bands, lack a sound. Perhaps more than ever, producers try to sound like other producers in the hopes of more exposure… During the 90′s there was no such template for a hit dance song… If there was, the criteria were diverse and many bands/producers found success. At times, the oddest sounding tracks sparked enough interest to garner popularity. Case in point was SNAP with THE POWER.
On the video side, many dance music groups shot fantastic videos where concepts often dictated the production. These high production videos had interesting imagery, dance moves and ideology- Something lacking in today’s music industry.
